St. Johns County Wildlife Activity by Season

Season Most Common Calls What's Happening
Winter (Dec to Feb)
Rodents, squirrels, raccoons, opossums
Animals look for warm, dry shelter in attics, garages, and crawlspaces. By February, raccoons and squirrels start working rooflines, vents, and soffits ahead of nesting season.
Spring (Mar to May)
Raccoons, squirrels, birds, snakes, armadillos, bats
Nesting season. Mothers with young settle into attics, armadillos dig up lawns, and snakes show up near sheds and patios. Last legal day to exclude bats without a permit is April 15.
Summer (Jun to Aug)
Snakes, bats, armadillos, raccoons, rodents
Heat and afternoon storms keep activity high. Fresh armadillo holes appear after rain, and snakes use shaded garages, decks, and pool equipment. Bat maternity season runs April 16 to August 14.
Fall (Sep to Nov)
Rodents, raccoons, squirrels, snakes, bats
Storm season can open new roofline gaps, and animals test weak spots before cooler nights. Bat exclusion is legal again from August 15.

Trusted by St. Johns County Customers

“I know Quick Catch and Ryan personally first and professionally second. I’ve hired his outfit on multiple occasions to remove venomous snakes, pesky rats, squirrels and raccoons from job sites my company works on. We met through a mutual friend at Celebration Church years ago and our families ‘do life’ together today. We recreationally hunt and fish avidly together all the time. Occasionally, I have had the pleasure of ‘riding along’ as a backseat ‘wing man’ (pun intended) with him and the Quick Catch team. Professionally, there is no other more competent and professional outfit in his industry in the North Florida demographic. I’ve seen the competition first hand. Personally, he and his wife Glorianne are of the highest character and integrity and I trust them both beyond question. If you are having a nuisance wild life problem and want rapid response along with a ‘quick catch’ then call Ryan and his team now!! They are first class in their field!!”

Florida Wildlife Laws St. Johns County Homeowners Should Know

  • Live-trapped nuisance wildlife can be released on the same contiguous property where it was caught. Off-site release is only legal for native species, on a site of at least 40 contiguous acres in the same county where the animal was captured, with written permission from that landowner (FWC, Rule 68A-9.010, F.A.C.). In short, your trapped raccoon can’t take a road trip to the next county.

  • Transporting trapped wildlife cannot override a rabies alert or quarantine issued by the County Health Department or County Animal Services. Check the Florida Department of Health in St. Johns County for any active alert.

  • Bats cannot be excluded during maternity season, April 16 to August 14. Exclusion devices are only legal from August 15 to April 15, and killing or harming bats is illegal (FWC, Bats in Buildings).

  • FWC does not license nuisance wildlife trappers, and property owners generally do not need FWC authorization to remove most nuisance wildlife from private property. That is exactly why choosing a licensed, insured company matters. Quick Catch Pest Control License #: JB329824.
